It’s Time for Maya Ixta Delgado
Maya Ixta Delgado is releasing her first bilingual single on May 2nd. “Time” is a very personal song about the anxiety and pressure she feels about the future. It is sure to resonate with her fans, but more specifically with other teens who feel the same kind of overwhelming demands on their time. A talented singer/songwriter, Maya Ixta’s very personal music reflects a maturity that is seldom seen in a young recording artist. This is her second single of 2024. Her first single, “Count One It’s Me” was released in February and was met with rave reviews. I recently had the opportunity to interview Maya Ixta about her new single as well as her plans for releasing more music.
Can you tell us a little about your newest single?
My newest single is titled “Time” and it’s my first bilingual (Spanish) song. “Time” reflects my anxiety about the future and what I want to achieve. Unfortunately, I don’t have a crystal ball and not knowing what comes next in my life can be scary. I think this worries a lot of other teenagers too. This uncertainty is what inspired the song. I wrote it when I was feeling so stressed and overwhelmed. Writing the song was actually very therapeutic and a huge stress reliever for me.
How would you describe the sound behind it?
It opens with a guitar solo by my mentor and co-producer, Daniel Jimenez
Alfandor, and has a mix of sounds from pop and alternative tracks to resemble the passage of time.
What was the inspiration for the track?
“Time” is a reflection of my anxiety about the future, especially when there’s so much that’s demanded of people in our current day and age. The fear of not having enough time can be overwhelming, but it’s important for everyone to recognize feelings of anxiety and find ways to find time for themselves.
What is your songwriting process?
It depends on the song and the emotion I want to evoke from my audience.
Once I have a baseline I like, I record over the produced track. Sometimes
lyrics and melodies happen simultaneously so I pay more attention to where the
song is taking me. It’s different for every songwriter!

What message do you hope your fans take away from this new single?
I want to remind my listeners that, despite life’s demands, it’s crucial to carve out
moments for ourselves. I also hope others will be able to connect to my stories and realize we are all going through things together.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Latina artists inspire me so much. Kali Uchis and Rosalia have such a special way of conveying their message through music and also naturally incorporating their culture into their songs, so they would be my dream artists to collaborate with. Billie Eilish is another huge influence of mine and has changed how I write music.
What’s next for you as an artist?
I’m working on various songs that will be a part of my upcoming E.P., “Diary
Entries.” This E.P. is very special to me because every song is based on an entry from my
diary. My diary is one of my “safe spaces” and it’s helped me sort out my life. Hopefully others resonate with my songs. It’s coming out this September!
